Over the past three years, the pandemic and global value-adding turmoil have severely impacted the furniture supply chain. However, against the background of raw material supply shortage, rising logistics cost and labor shortage, the export figures of Vietnam's furniture industry still maintain the growth trend.

According to the Vietnam Forestry Service, the export growth of timber and wood products projects has been growing for more than 20 consecutive years, from US $220 million in 2000 to US $15.8 billion in 2022, and is an increase not seen in any domestic industry in Vietnam.

Pei Zhengyi, director general of Vietnam Forestry Administration, said that since 2022, the global timber market has been affected by the epidemic and the Russia-Ukraine incident. Compared with the performance of the first half of the year, Vietnam's timber market has experienced a difficult moment in the second half. Rising global inflation has negatively impacted Vietnamese furniture industry orders in the final months of 2022, putting exporters in a critical situation. However, thanks to the concerted efforts of industry players, the industry is gradually getting closer to the target set in early 2022.

Vietnam's exports of wood and wood products were worth about $14.6 billion in the first 11 months of this year, up 9 percent from a year earlier. In November alone, exports were $1.1 billion, down 14.6 percent year on year. Exports fell further in December, pushing full-year growth back to 6.7 per cent.
